The Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation’s Project Spaces initiative, in partnership with the Des Moines Area Regional Transit (DART) Authority, commissioned the artist Alex Brown to create a unique design to wrap around a large transit bus. The overall dimensions in feet are (Height) 11 x (Width) 40 x (Depth) 8.

Alex Brown’s design for a bus relies on abstracting the methods of reproduction (i.e., half-tone dots) as a means of altering the color and form of the subject represented. The halftone dots echo the perforated dots use to allow bus passengers to see out of bus wrap vinyl. The artist selected the images for this public art project exclusively by whether or not they seem beautiful to him; each image was inspired by a collection of photographs that the artist found. The images incorporated in this design were presented in a 2014 art exhibition.
