Public Art “Sails” Benefit City

Just read that in FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, a 100 sailboats — 8-foot-high artworks will be painted by various artists. The public art project received approval on December 6 to dock at public and private spots throughout the city in next year.

City commissioners approved the agreement with a media development organization, which will seek sponsorships for the sculptures. The sailboats will be on display at businesses, parks, tourist destinations and other spots between October 2012 and May 2013.

When the program is finished, the sailboats will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the city’s Parks and Recreation Department Foundation.
