A new work of public art by Ólafur Eliasson (Danish-Icelandic, born 1967) will be formally presented to the Des Moines City Council this evening — Monday, September 9, 2013. Des Moines Register journalist Michael Morain reported the story, and described the artwork as a walk-through kaleidoscope. The site is the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. Construction for its foundation would be anticipated for mid-October, with the installation beginning in early November.
Here is an interesting interview with Ólafur Eliasson by Chris Gilbert in BOMB 88/Summer 2004.
Eliasson is a fascinating artist. Readers may remember these two stories the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation blogged about in 12 March 2013 and 20 October 2011.
