The Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation (GDMPAF) wants you to explore the diverse character of our neighborhoods with the help of a free application (“App”) called “DSM PUBLIC ART.”

Want to find great public art in Greater Des Moines?

Are you curious about a sculpture or mural you’ve passed?

M. Jessica Rowe is Director of the GDMPAF and she says, “This interactive, multimedia application provides a spectacular, self-guided tour of public art throughout the area. An anonymous donor provided funds for this innovative project, which has been in development since March 2011. Matt Blair of Elsewise LLC designed the software. This app project nurtures a sense of citizen ownership and pride in our public art collection-helping fulfill the foundation’s aim is to enrich the lives in our community by advancing the best of public art.”

ABOUT THE APP

The App can help you discover bold and distinctive styles of public art from artists around the world.

It lets you search a visual library organized by artist, title and location. Just follow the Google maps and GPS tracking to find your chosen works of art.

WHERE CAN THE APP LEAD YOU?

To work by such venerated names as Edwin Blashfield, Stuart Davis, Arnaldo Pomodoro, and Henry Moore.

To pop art masters, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen or Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt, James Rosati, and Joel Shapiro from the world of abstracts.
You can also find sites that integrate the work of Anna Gaskell, Jun Kaneko, Maya Lin, and Mary Miss. Plus, surprisingly innovative public works by artists Jesse Small, Jaume Plensa, and Yoshitomo Nara.
