Jon Turner was born in Ames, Iowa in 1956.
Unique public installations in Des Moines by Turner include the design and fabrication of: “Physics Playground” (1993-94) at the former Science Center of Iowa; a pair of Parrott rifle cannon bases (2005) on the Iowa State Capitol grounds; reconstructions (2005-09) of decorative, architectural details at Terrace Hill, the Iowa Governor’s residence.

The wood and iron base by Jon Turner supports a Parrott gun tube located next to the Iowa State Capitol. Parrott was a type of muzzle-loading rifled artillery weapon used extensively in the American Civil War.

Designed by architect William Warren Boyington, Terrace Hill was constructed between 1866-69. Jon Turner replicated and restored exterior architectural details including the wooden porches, pergolas, ornaments, rope moldings, windows, door and parapet, 2005-09.
